q:How did your research inform your products and the way they use and challenge conventions ? ans our genre is heartbreak and depression. There's no doubt simran and I have been searching all over internet to get some ideas that support our genre. Therefore, to some extent our research about our genre was accurate. we searched regarding our genre it gave us ideas regarding dressing, lighting, make-up, editing, sound/music that would actually give the expression of being depressed. Some sites gave us the guidance that at the end individual commits suicide but we were asked not to use that expression as it glamourises negative experiences. We searched many songs over YouTube like slander, you broke me first, we the kings. But these songs weren't giving deep feeling of being depressed or heart broken because of just named relation. Literally, it gave us information regarding other elements of production. But it was quit consuming to search accurate song. Since the start of the project we had decided to select that should really give the audience a relatable feeling. A feeling if they would have been part of the music video. By searching all over we ended up agreeing over TV by Billie Ellish. we also color graded it black and white which also made it appear gloomy and depressed just how we wanted it to be for the genre we selected. we had to shoot it in lowkey lighting so didnt want to shoot it on a sunny day, we shot it twice and used the shots we liked. we used iphone 12 and used the app filmic pro. i challenged the conventions when i tilted the camera vertically when the girl falls to the ground, i saw it in a series and it really inspired me to do that. i also used dolly out in the beginning which was new for me and it really enhanced the look of the video. the use of black and white color grading is also a challenge to the conventions as this is not common nowadays at all. editing is all conventional otherwise and everything is done according to the rules.
